Our Restaurant

Unlike many owners of other restaurants our Proprietor Mr. Shriprakash Choudhary started his remarkable journey by opening a very small eatery on the rooftop of 51, Gandhi Road, Darjeeling at a very young age with Umbrellas to guard customers from rain and sun-rays with some delicious south Indian delicacies. It’s called paying your dues, learning the business from the ground up, and understanding what it takes to succeed. “If there’s a secret,” he says, “it’s hard work, unwavering commitment to the customer, and putting together a team of the very best people you can find.” Shriprakash had already absorbed valuable lessons from his family’s successful businesses before he struck out on his own to introduce a brand new concept in casual premium restaurants. The Lunar Restaurant opened in 1976 and, as word spread, demand grew so quickly that it wasn’t long before a complete floor was taken on lease with 4 rooms to use for customers as a night halt. Today there are 12 rooms spread over two floors and a 90 sitter restaurant in another floor. It’s not a matter of repeating formulas and stereotypes, but of creating spaces perfectly suited to the locale and the customer profile.
